«حي بن يقظان» إحدى كلاسيكيات الأدب العربي القديم، ورائعة من روائعه، جمع فيها ابن الطفيل بين الفلسفة والأدب والدين والتربية، فهي قصة ذات مضامين فلسفية عميقة، تناقش ما نسميه في مصطلحنا المعاصر برؤية العالم أو النموذج المعرفي، حيث تتضمن القصة عناصر الثقل المعرفي الأساسية والممثلة في (الإله/الإنسان/الطبيعة)، كما تتطرق إلى أبعاد العلاقة بين هذا العناصر، فهي تحكي قصة إنسان استقر به الحال وهو بعد طفل على أرضٍ لا إنسان فيها، فاتخذ من الحيوان مُرضِعًا له، والطبيعة مأوًى له، فافترش الأرض والتحف السماء، ولما كبر واتشد عوده ونضج فكره، انصرف إلى التأمل في الكون، وهو الأمر الذي قاده إلى حتمية وجود خالق لهذا الكون. ومن الجدير بالذكر أن هذه القصة قد أعيد كتابتها في تراثنا العربي أربعة مرات على يد كل من ابن سينا، وشهاب الدين السهروردي، وابن الطفيل، وابن النفيس، هذا الأخير الذي أعاد كتابتها تحت مسمَّى آخر يوافق ومعتقده الفلسفي، فسماها «فاضل بن ناطق».
