أحمد عيسى: طبيب وأديب ومؤرخ مصري، وُلِدَ بمدينة رشيد في محافظة البحيرة عام ١٨٧٦م، وأتم تعليمه الأساسي بها، ثم انتقل إلى المدرسة الخديوية، والتحق بعدها بمدرسة الطب بالقاهرة.
تخصَّص عيسى في أمراض النساء، كما عمِل بالطب الباطني في العديد من المستشفيات، إلا أنه لم يستمر في مزاولة المهنة، واتَّجه إلى التأليف والترجمة، وكان يحرص على حضور الدروس في تخصُّصات معرِفية أخرى بالجامعة المصرية (جامعة القاهرة).
وقد أجاد أحمد عيسى بعض اللغات السامية، واليونانية، واللاتينية.
كان عضوًا في العديد من الجمعيات والمجالس كجمعية الهلال الأحمر، ومجلس المجمع العلمي بدمشق، والمجلس الأعلى لدار الكتب المصرية، والأكاديمية الدولية لتاريخ العلوم بباريس، وقد انتقل عيسى إلى رحاب الله عام ١٩٤٦م.

«تاريخ النبات عند العرب» هو كتاب علمي في ثوبٍ توثيقيٍ تاريخي؛ فالكتاب يتناول تاريخ النبات عند العرب بوصفه من العلوم الأثيرةِ لديهم، وقد قسَّم الكاتب هذا الكتاب إلى أربعة أجزاءٍ جمعت بين طيَّاتها أوجه الحُسْن المعرفي التي تبرهنُ على عِظَمِ هذا العلم؛ بوصفه علمًا مصيريًا في حياة الإنسان، وقد برع الكاتب في تصنيف حيثيات هذا العلم لغويًا، وعلميًا، وتاريخيًا، وجغرافيًا؛ حيث تناول الكاتب تاريخ علم النبات في شبه الجزيرة العربية ومدى وثاقة ذلك العلم بالصحيح من لغة العرب، ثم تناول تاريخ النبات من الناحية الطبية، واقْتَفَى أثره عبر العصور المختلفة: الإسلامية، والأموية، والعباسية، ثم تحدَّث عن تاريخ الفلاحة عبر البلدان المختلفة؛ فتحدَّث عن الفلاحة في فارس والأندلس، وذكر العلماء الذين عكفوا على التدوين لهذا العلم وأشهر مؤلفاتهم فيه، كما تحدَّث عن اهتمام الهنود بهذا العلم، وتناول مَنْ اهتموا بالتدوين لهذا العِلم في العراق، والشام، ومصر في عهد الدولة الفاطمية والأيوبية، واختتم كتابهُ بتناوله للتاريخ الجغرافي لهذا العلم عبر رحلات الرَّحالة العرب.
