يتناول هذا الكتاب قضية الترقيم وعلاماته في اللغة العربية؛ نظرًا للأهمية التي تلعبها تلك العلامات في تسهيل الفهم والإدراك لدى المتلقين؛ فهي تعينهم على فهم المقاصد التعبيرية التي وُضِعَت من أجلها الجمل والعبارات، وقد تناول الكاتب قضية الترقيم بين القدماء والمحدثين، وأشار إلى العلامات الترقيمية المستحدثة التي وفدت إلينا من الغرب، والتي لم يَعْهَدها علماء اللغة قديمًا؛ كالفصلة، والفصلة المنقوطة، وأقواس الاقتباس. ويتناول الكاتب في هذا المُؤَلَّف الأسس والقواعد التي ينبغي مراعاتها في الكتابة، ويتضمن هذا الكتاب القواعد الخطية المتبعة في رسم بعض الحروف، والحركات الإعرابية الموضوعة عليها، ويوضح مدى أهمية تلك الحركات في ضبط الأعلام الجغرافية والتاريخية، كما أشار إلى ظاهرة اختزال بعض الكلمات مثل كلمة «إلخ» التي تعني إلى آخره، والجمل الدعائية الشائعة الاستعمال، وكأنه بذلك المُؤَلَّف قد رَسَّم الحدود التعبيرية للعلامات الترقيمية في اللغة العربية.
