يعد هذا الكتاب نفيسة من نفائس المذهب الصوفي؛ لأنه يجلى دروب التصوف في فصول، وأبواب، ومن يقرأ هذا الكتاب يجد أن الكاتب قد عبر عن المذهب الصوفي عبر آفاق رحبة أصل فيها هذا المذهب تاريخيا، وفلسفيا، وعقديا، وأجلى السمات التي ميزت كل حقبة تاريخية وجد فيها هذا المذهب، ومدى الدور الذي لعبه في اثراء الحياة الأدبية، التي ذخرت بأعلامٍ من الشعراء، والعلماء الذين سلكوا درب التصوف. وقد تناول الكاتب في هذا الكتاب حياة «فريد الدين العطار»، وتحدث عن المكانة التي وصل اليها بين أنداده من رواد هذا المذهب، كما تناول الكاتب الطريقة التي انتهجها العطار في معرفة الله؛ والتي أعلى فيها الوجدان على العقل؛ علوا لا يغفل العقل بقدر ما يجعله مرشدا للوصول الى طريق العشق الالهي الذي تتجلى صوره في ابداع الخالق لأشكال الخلق، ثم تحدث الكاتب عن القضاء والقدر عند الصوفية، وطريقتهم فى الوصول الى الله.
