«دعتني جمعية مصر الفتاة دعوة كريمة الى القاء محاضرة على أعضائها في الجامعة المصرية، فوعدت وخطر لي أن خير موضوع أتخذه هو شخصية نسائية غنية ندرسها معا، فتعرض لنا في سياق البحث موضوعات جمة في الأخلاق والأدب والاجتماع نمحصها قدر المستطاع، بينما نحن نرسم من المرأة صورة شيقة، فنسجل للحركة النسائية في هذه البلاد مفخرة أخرى تثير فينا الرغبات، ونستمد من وحيها المثل والمعونة والفائدة جميعا، وما خطر لي ذلك الا وصحبه اسم شجي يحيا دواما بزفراته الحارة المنغومة زفرات تناقلتها الأصداء يوم لم يكن للمرأة صوت يسمع، فرسمت من الذاتية خطا جميلا حين كانت صورة المرأة سديما محجوبا وراء جدران المنازل وتكتم الاستئثار، ورغم ذلك أنشأت أنقب في تاريخ المرأة المصرية، وكانت كلما دفقت نمت التيمورية في ذهني، وتفردت صورتها أمامي اذ لم يقم على مقربة منها صورة تسابقها أو تشبهها ولو شبها بعيدا.»
