هذا كتاب في عقائد الشيعة الأثني عشرية، وقد اخترنا دراستها لأنّ عقائد الفرقة تحدّد كيفيّة توحيدها ربَّها وموالاة إمامها، وكيفية إدراكها لنفسها، وطريقة تنظيم إجتماعها، ووجوه معاملة مخالفيها، وهيئة تصوّرها للآخرة ومصير الناس فيها، فدراسة العقائد بهذا التصوّر تقليبٌ لرؤية كونيّة وبحثّ عن أصلِ الإجتماع ومحورِه وعللِ إختلالِه وأسباب إتزانه وإعتداله. واتخذنا الجدل مدخلاً إلى دراستها، وأردنا به ما جرى بين الإثني عشرية والفرق الإسلامية من إختلاف وحجج ومناظرة، وما خالف فيه الإمام الإمام، وما صحَح به علماؤها آراء نظرائهم وأسلافهم من أهل فرقتهم، وما استعمله الأئمّة وأعلام الفرقة لسياسة الأتباع بتثبيتهم على العقيدة حيناً، وإثارة وجدانهم وأمانيهم تارةً، وتخويفهم وإقصاء بعضهم تارةً أخرى، وبيّنا أن الجدل مناظرةٌ بالكلام، وحرمانٌ من الزكاة ومن التقدّم إلى إمامة الصلاة، وإفتاءٌ بمخالطة المخالف ومقاطعته، ومدافعةٌ للحيرة والشكّ، ومقاومةٌ للإنشقاق، وتبشيرٌ بالشفاعة والجنّة، وتخويفٌ من النار، وسمّينا هذه العمليّة المركبة المستمرّة: "هندسة العقيدة". وساءلنا قول الإثني عشرية إنّ عقائدهم وحيٌ إلهيٌّ وتعليمٌ نبويٌّ وتبيين إمام، ففحصنا عن نشأتها وتكوّنها، وجمعها وتأليفها، وتهذيبها وتصحيحها، وتكرارها وشرحها، وبيّنا أن العقيدة صناعةٌ بشريةٌ نشأت أطواراً، وتأليفٌ كلاميٌّ التأم بالإعتراض على المخالف والإقتراض منه، وتدبيرٌ حاذقٌ ألف بين الخبر والنظر والأسطورة لسياسة الأتباع، وأنّ الغلوَّ والإعتدال صوتان في الفرقة يتناوبان ولا يتنافيان، والتشبيه والتترية مذهبان فيها متداخلان، والجبرَ وحرّيّة الفعل مقالتان بها فاشيتان. وألتزمنا في الكتاب الإستشهاد الدقيق والقصد في التأويل والإنصاف في البيان والإستنتاج، فمن أكبر مقاصدنا أن يكون هذا البحث مدخلاً إلى نقد العقائد الكلاميّة نقداً علمياً، وباعثاً لمن ألِفَ التقليدَ على مراجعةِ نفسه وطلبِ الحقيقة في غير الخضوع والتسليم.
