المسرح قاعة تشبه قاعات المحاكم. في صدر القاعة منصة كبيرة عليها منضدة ومقعد فخم، على الجانب الأيمن قفص اتهام، وأمام المنصة مقاعد خالية، وعلى الجانب الأيسر منبر كتب عليه ((منبر الضمير)) وفي مقدمة المسرح القريبة من الجمهور رقعة متدلية من السقف كتب عليها بأحرف كبيرة ((محكمة الأبرياء)). يمر بالمسرح كهل ذو ثياب رثة، يقطع المسرح من جانب إلى جانب، وفجأة تلفت نظره الرقعة، فيقترب منها، حتى يكاد يصافحها بوجهه، ويقرأ مرات متتابعة بصوت مرتفع متقطع بطئ (( مح كمتل أب رياء)) ويهز رأسه عجبا، ثم يلتفت إلى الجمهور دهشا مما قرأ.
