ولد زكريا عبد الجواد بمحافظة البحيرة وتخرج من جامعة المنصورة عام 1975.
حاز على جائزة الصحافة العربية (فرع التحقيقات الصحفية) عام 2002، عن استطلاع صحفي نشر في مجلة العربي الكويتية بعنوان "اريتريا..

Book Description
فكرة طارئة، أو نزوة مجنونة. لم يكن ثمة أحد، ولا حتى كاتم أسراره، ليستطيع اختراق الحجب، كل يدرك السبب الذي يدعو رجلاً له تلك المهابة، كي ينهض من دفء سريره، ويتمشى في حديقته الرئاسية. لكن، ما أن حط زعيم الأمة قدميه، حتى أحاطته من بعيد، عيون حراسه الخصوصيين... ورفرفت حوله أفئدة شعب لا تنبض إلا إذا سمح لها بالوجيب. راح يسير بين أشجار تتمايل أغصانها لتحيته، وعصافير استفاقت للتو على وقع خطواته، فانتفضت من رقدتها لتغرد أدرك أن شعباً كهذا، لا يمكن الاعتماد عليه في تحقيق طموحاته، تلك التي لا تستوعبها مساحة البلاد، ولا تقف أمامها حدود المنطقة، ولا يقدر على إنجازها ببشر افترستهم الاستكانة وفقدان الهمة. خلص في النهاية إلى استنتاج مثل له لحظة فارقة: "هؤلاء قاصرون، أشبه بأطفال لفظتهم بطون أمهاتهم، قبل اكتمال النمو. هؤلاء الذين ابتليت بحكمهم، مجرد شعب من الخدج... نواتج لولادات مبتسرة".
