إن الثقافة الشفهية العربية استطاعت وعبر حقب التاريخ القديم أن تحتفظ بالكثير من تراثنا الثقافي، من خلال المرويات التي يتناقلها الأبناء عن أبائهم، إلا أن الكتابة استطاعت أن تحتفظ بالكثير من المعرفة والفكر بالمخترعات والمنجزات التي أوجدها الإنسان لهذا الغرض، فبقدرة الكتابة على التدوين بقي المدون صامدا في وجه المتغيرات التي لا ترحم مطلقا الذاكرة البشرية بشكل عام ولا جدال في ذلك حتما. والمنجز الفكري لأسلافنا العمانيين بكل ما يحويه من سعة أفق معرفي، لم يكن ليصل إلى أيدينا اليوم إلا عبر أوعية المعرفة التي كانت متوافرة لديهم في القديم، فشكل الورق والجلد وسائل للتدوين والكتابة، كما شكلت الأقلام والأحبار والأدوات المستخدمة في التجليد والتغليف وسائل لحفظ وانتقال التراث الثقافي من جيل إلى آخر، كما شكل النسخ والتداول وفق منهجيات ووسائل متعددة، طريقة مهمة في الانتشار والتوزيع حسب الأفق الحضاري لتلك المراحل، كما كشف باحثو هذه الندوة عنه من خلال أوراق العمل المسندة إليهم.
