يأتي إعداد هذا الكتاب بعنوان : ((الإعلان؟)) من منطلق الاهتمام بعرض بعض الأسس حول مفهوم الإعلان واستخداماته، وأساليبه في العصر الحديث. فقد شهدت الممارسات الإعلانية تطورا ملموسا من حيث المضمون، والشكل، والاستخدامات، وتعدد الوسائل وتنوعها. وأصبح الإعلان شريكا بدرجات متفاوتة في أغلب الوسائل الاتصالية في مختلف الأنظمة الإعلامية، وعلى مستوى الدول الصناعية الكبرى والدول الساعية للتنمية الشاملة والنهوض بأوضاعها. وشهدت السنوات الأخيرة بصفة خاصة حالة من التدفق الإعلاني على استخدام التليفزيون كوسيط إعلاني له خصائصه وتقنياته وسعة انتشار جماهيري، مما جعله وسيلة جذابة للمعلنين كما هو وسيلة جذابة مؤثرة في المشاهدين. وأصبح على الدارسين لعلوم الاتصال وفنون الإعلام أن يتفهموا جيدا مفاهيم وأسس الإعلان وغيره من الأنشطة الاتصالية المختلفة والتي يفصل فيما بينها خيط رفيع، إذ ينتج عن عدم مراعاته وإدراكه أكبر المشاكل والخسائر. وفي ظل ما نشاهده من تدفق إعلاني على الجماهير واختراق إعلاني لوسائل الاتصال بشكل مكثف اختلفت الآراء والاتجاهات حول الإعلان .. مما يجعل مناقشة مردود الإعلان وانعكاساته من الأمور الضرورية للإعلاميين مخططين ومبدعين ومنفذين، كما هو ضروري للمهتمين والمشتغلين بالإعلان كنشاط له أسسه وقواعده ونظرياته كغيره من العلوم والفنون. والمتتبع للواقع الإعلاني في مجتمعنا العربي، دراسا أو متعرضا يمكنه أن يرصد مجموعة من المشكلات والقضايا التي سبق وأن عانى منها العالم الغربي وواجهها بالتشريعات وبالوعى وقوى الضغط المدنية.
