في البداية كانت البيوت، رصت بجوار بعضها فصارت شوارع وحواري وأزقة. احتاجت أبوابا وشبابيك فصنعها عبد العاطي. كبر العيال وبرزت لهم أذقان، ثم ترعرعت البنات وطلبن الزواج فصنع لهن أسرة ودواليب. عفريت عبد العاطي وله في الفن تفانين. فقط تتبدل أكواب الشاي من امامه، وتضرب أنفاس المعسل بيافوخه يمسك بالمنشار ويشكل ما شاء الناس. قلنا: وماذا بعد يا جدي ؟ .. ماذا؟ ! قال: أعط .. تعطى .. وخذ على قدرك. ركب عبد العاطي سفينته .. وعبر البحر. قلنا يا عبد العاطي لنا عندك أبوابا وشبابيك. قال: أحج يا ناس وأسعى وراء رزقي. صنع في بلاد الأغراب أبوابا أخرى وشبابيك.
