الكلمة هي قوة عظمى في كل عصر، وفي كل زمان ومكان، فيها يتجلى الخلق والإبداع، وبها يمكن إحقاق الحق، أو دعم الباطل، إنقاذ الناس، أو قتلهم، حشد الجيوش، وإعلان الحروب، إنها القوة الأكثر قدرة على تغيير العقول، وتحريك البشر في الاتجاه الذي تريد، فهي ليست وسيلة اتصال فقط، بل أداة هامة للإقناع، إذ بإمكانها أن تصنع القوة، وأن تجعل العالم أفضل. يقول المفكر جيمس بالدوين (James Baldwin) : "إنك تكتب لتغيير العالم، علما بأنك تعرف أنك قد لا تستطيع ذلك". ويقول المفكر وودي آلين (Woody Allen) : " تواجه الناس في حياتهم المعاصرة، اتجاهات متعددة، بعضها يقود إلى الخير، وبعضها الآخر إلى فقدان الأمل، وأخرى إلى الدمار والانقراض. دعنا نصلي إلى الله، حتى يمنحنا الحكمة، لنحسن اختيار ما نكتب". قد لا تكون الأمور بهذه الصورة المظلمة، ولكنها على كل حال، سيئة بما فيه الكفاية، ولا سيما أننا نجد مؤسسات إعلامية كبرى في هذا العالم، تجند إمكاناتها ووسائلها، المادية والبشرية، دعما للباطل في كل مكان، لفرض سيطرته، وتوسيع نفوذه، دون خجل أو وجل، وهو أمر تعاني منه أمتنا الشيء الكثير، لأسباب باتت معروفة للجميع.... ويسعى هذا الكتاب، للتعريف بأصول الكتابة، وأنواعها، وسبل تطويرها، وخاصة لدى الأطفال والشباب، ما بين سن السادسة، حتى السادسة عشرة، ويصل في بعض الحالات، حتى العشرين، أو يزيد، عند من لم يتقن فن الكتابة في المراحل الدراسية السابقة الذكر، سواء منها الكتابة المدرسية، الكتابة الإبداعية التخيلية، أو الكتابة العلمية، إذ على هؤلاء، أن يتعلموا بالتدريج، جميع أنواع الكتابة، ومهاراتها، وأصول تنظيمها، في هذه المرحلة الهامة من عمرهم، والمثل يقول: ((العلم في الصغر، كالنقش على الحجر)).
