يشكل واجب الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر معلما بارزا من معالم الإسلام. وكما ذكرت في فصل لاحق من فصول الكتاب؛ فإن من الواجب يملك ما يشبهه في الديانات الأخرى. لكن هذا المبدأ يبقى أقل تطورا بكثير هناك وهنالك بحيث تصعب مقارنته مع هذه الفريضة الإسلامية، ثم إن واجب الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر لم يلعب دورا مشابها في حياة أتباع تلك الديانات. إن المعروف أن واجب الأمر بالمعروف يجد اشتراعا له في النصوص التأسيسية للدين الإسلامي، وأعني بذلك نصوص الكتاب والسنة. والنصوص الشارعة هذه، سوف نتعرض لها بالتفصيل في الفصول الأولى من هذا الكتاب. بيد أن أهمية هذا الواجب تتصل أيضا ببعدين آخرين من أبعاد الدين الإسلامي. وهذان الوجهان شديدا الظهور، إنما قد يكون من الملائم أن نقول شيئا عن أهميتها لموضوعنا.
