كان اجتماع مجلس الوزراء عاصفا للغاية وبعد الاجتماع خرج وزير التربية والتعليم مكفهر الوجه غاضبا في حين خرج وزير الشباب مبتسما يكاد يقفز وهو يسير أمام الصحفيين المجتمعين وأمام المجلس أعلن وزير التربية والتعليم أنه لا يوافق البتة على إقامة مارثون سقارة على الرغم من حصوله على تأييد أغلبية الوزراء.
في المساء وفي مؤتمر صحفي كبير مذاع على الهواء أعلن وزير الإعلام: '' قررت حكومة مصر إقامة سباق مارثون سقارة بين جميع شباب مصر من سن السادسة عشرة وحتى السادسة والعشرين وتكون جائزته الأولى خمسة ملايين جنيها ويقام بعد سنتين وعلى مسافة ثلاثين كيلومترا في الصحراء الواقعة بين أهرامات الجيزة وأهرام سقارة وفي حالة نجاحه يكرر بنفس الشروط مع اختلاف الأماكن".
