الانترنت عبارة عن شبكة كمبيوترات ضخمة متصلة مع بعضها البعض. يعتبر الانترنت عالم مختلف تماما عن الكمبيوتر، عالم يمكن لطفل في التاسعة الإبحار فيه. ففي البداية كان على مستخدم الانترنت معرفة بروتوكولات ونظم تشغيل معقدة كنظام تشغيل Unix أما الآن فلا يلزمك سوى معرفة بسيطة بالحاسب لكي تدخل إلى رحاب الانترنت. يقف خلف الإنترنت جمعية الانترنت ISOC وهي جمعية غير ربحية لأعضاء متطوعين يقومون بتسهيل ودعم النمو الفني للانترنت وتحفيز الاهتمام بها. الإنترنت كالبحر الملئ بالسيئ والجيد، هنا ((درر)) وهناك ((صخور)). أما البحث في الإنترنت فمن منا لا يتوه عند دخوله عالم الإنترنت؟ لا أعتقد أن الكثير منا يصل إلى هدفه مباشرة عند تصفح مواقع الإنترنت، ولحسم هذه المشكلة التي تواجه الكثير من مستخدمي الإنترنت تم تضمين الكتاب طرقا تساعد المستخدم للحصول على نتائج دقيقة عند استخدام محرك البحث قوقل. كما أن هناك مصطلحات نراها كثيرا خلال تصفح الانترنت، وقد يجهلها بعض من لا يعرفها، ويحسن بمستخدم الانترنت أن يلم بها، حتى يستفيد ويختصر على نفسه الكثير من الجهد والبحث.
