مع ما يصاحب أي منهج رائد من عيوب ومحاسن، فإني أعتقد أن الأفكار التي أتيت بها في كتابي والأفعال والوقائع التي ذكرتها يمكنها أن تصلح قاعدة للأعمال التي تأتي فيما بعد. ورغم أن ((منهج المعجمية)) يعتبر كتابا بنيويا في جوهرة، لأنه يعتبر أن الكلمة لا يمكن عزلها عن سياقها الاجتماعي، فإنه لا يمكن أن يخضع لبعض المفاهيم الأساسية في ((محاضرات)) سوسير، بل لقج سمح لنفسه بأن ينهض ضد الثوابت الآتية في هذا الكتاب: - لقد ظهر أكثر فأكثر أن اللسانيات، التي لها حتما مناهجها ووجهة نظرها الخاصة، ليست معزولة عن بقية العلوم الإنسانية الأخرى بالشكل الذي يدعيه سوسير، لدرجة أننا نستطيع اعتبار المعجمية مادة مجاورة لعلم الاجتماع. - أثبت كل من المعجمية وعلم الدلالة، اللذين تجاهلهما كتاب ((محاضرات في علم اللغة العام))، حقهما في الوجود بما أثاراه وأوجداه من أعمال. - ازدراء الددراسة التعاقبية (الديكارونية)، الذي نعلمه منذ ورتبورغ وبالدينجر، ليس له ما يبرره. - التمييز الذي أقامه سوسير بين اللسان والكلام يتطلب المراجعة.
