ثمة نهارات سعيدة تحدث فجأة، وثمة أوقات لا تشعر فيها بالزمن ولا بوقع دقات الساعة. هذه كانت من اللحظات القليلة التي أدرك فيها سليم بأنها ستكون ذات أثر في حياته. لن تكون مجرد لحظة عابرة. فيما كان يسير في شارع الجلاء من عند مفرق السرايا باتجاه الشمال، كان سليم يقول لنفسه إن يافا تتحدث عن نفسها وهي تشير إلى الواقع والخيال، تبدو فتاة طموحة ولكنها تخاف من طموحها، وكثيرًا ما حاولت تبرير ذلك خلال حديثها عن أن الطموح أمر ضروري، ولكنها في جملة تالية ستتحدث عن قسوة الواقع، وإذا كان لكل إنسان طموح ما، وإذا كان كل إنسان بالضرورة يعيش في واقع ما، فإن مدى نجاح المرء في تحقيق طموحه منوط بمستوى علاقته بالواقع .
