عند ذاك دوت صرخة فظيعة في حجرة النوم، اندفعت الفتاة إلى الحجرة وهي تصيح: رجل في صوان الملابس! وهتف كثيرون في دهشة: رجل! وظهر الرجل في مدخل الحجرة. عملاق، عملاق ينطق وجهه البرنزي بالقوة والتحدي والاستهتار. تبادلوا نظرات ذاهلة، وغاضبة، وتأهبوا للعواقب.. لم يبد في وجه القادم الجديد أي ارتباك ولا خوف. بل تساءل بصوت أجش: من أنتم؟ وماذا جاء بكم إلى هنا؟ فسألة الشاب بدوره: من أنت؟ وماذا جاء بك إلى هنا؟ أجاب العملاق ببساطة: إني في بيتي! بيتك!.. لكنه بيتي، وتحت يدي ما يثبت ذلك. لا أحب الهذر، أنه بيتي وكفى. فقال الرجل الغليظ بحقد: دجال: أنت لص منازل حقير، سأتذكر فوراً متى رأيتك أول مرة.. صه أيها البهلوان وإلا حطمت أضلعك! أنت تقول ذلك يا لص المنازل؟ مصارع موالد زائف، المصارعة الحقيقية شيء آخر، إني أعرفكم أيها المهرجون: فقال له الشاب: هذا بيتي، وأنت لص كالآخرين. أنت تهذي. سيحكم بيننا القانون، سأقذفك بك من النافذة، هذا هو القانون الذي اعترف به، فسألته الفتاة: إذا كنت صاحب البيت كما تزعم فلم أخفيت نفسك في صوان الملابس؟ أنا حر في بيتي، أرقد حيث يطيب لي. لا أحد يرقد في صوان الملابس. إنه خلوتي المفضلة ولست مسئولاً أمام أحد. فقال الرجل الغليظ: أنت لص، لص منازل حقير، إني أعرفك. اخرس أيها المهرج الحقير. فقال الشاب: لندع الشرطة ولنترك لها الفصل في الأمر.
