وشهدت قهوة غزال محضر باشوات وبيكوات يجلسون إلى المعلم بيومى الفوال متوديين متحادثين. وكان المعلم يصغى لهم ويستولى على نقودهم، ولكنه فى يوم الانتخابات ذهب هو وصحبة إلى أقسام البوليس يعطفون أصواتهم لمرشحى سعد زغلول. ومنذ ذاك العهد وهو يسمى أولئك الباشوات والبيكوات "بالكروديات" على أنه كان يباهى باتصالاته بهم فى أحايين كثيرة فيقول فى أثناء حديثه:
وقال لى الباشا كيت وكيت، وقلت للباشا وكيت وكيت. تلك أيام خلت.. وخلفت وراءها دهرا قاسيا شديد الظلمات فما يدرى أولئك الفتوات إلا والبوليس يضيف بهم ذرعا ويشمر للقضاء على أعمالهم. وكان من سياسته أن قذف الحسينية بضابط شاب لم تشهد الداخلية له من قبل نظيرا، سواء فى قوته أم فى شجاعته وشدة عناده. وكان يعلم أن هدفه الأول هو المعلم بيومى الفوال، فلم يحد عنه، ولم ينتظر الأدلة القانونية لأنه كان يعلم أن أحدا من الناس لن تواتيه شجاعته على الشهادة ضده. فهاجمه بجنوده بعته وقادة إلى النقطة وأمر الجنود بضربه ضربا مبرحاً.
واصيب المعلم بذهول شديد لذاك العدوان الجرئ. فما كان من الضابط إلا أن أعاد الكرة مرة ومرتين حتى كسر شوكته. ثم جعل يسوقه أمامه محاطا بجموعة الجند الشاكى السلاح يصفعونه فى كل منعطف طريق، ويركلونه أمام كل قهوة، وينزلون بمن يظهر لهم من فتيانه أشد العقاب، فأفاق الناس من غشيتهم وانحلت عقدة الذعر الممسكة بألسنتهم فهرعوا إلى رجل الأمن يشكون ويستعدون.
