ما شروط موضوعية نظرة عالم الإجتماع؟... وما هي قواعد أخلاقيات المسلكية العلمية التي على كل عالم إجتماع أن يستند إليها؟... وهل يمكن أن يلتزم عالم الإجتماع نضالياً في الحياة الإجتماعية والسياسية؟.
هذا الكتاب يعيد رسم المسار العلمي الذي يقود من بناء موضوع إلى نشر مقالات أو كتب مروراً بممارسة التحقيق الميداني وتحليل النتائج، إذ يُسائل، في معنى أعم، إلتزام عالم الإجتماع وموقعه في المجتمع.
وبناءً عليه، تم تقسيم مادة الكتاب إلى أربعة أقسام، ضمت عشرات من الأمثلة، وعناوين الكتب، ومن الأسماء ومن التجارب البحثية والمسارات المهنية، أوروبية وأميركية خاصة، ثريّة ومتنوعة وموحية ومعلّمة.
ولقد جاءت عناوين الأقسام وفق ما يلي: القسم الأول: "عالم الإجتماع وموضوعه"، القسم الثاني: "عالم الإجتماع وميدانه"، القسم الثالث: "عالم الإجتماع ونتائجه"، القسم الرابع: "عالم الإجتماع في المدينة".
