ولد في بغداد عام 1926
تخرج بشهادة اللغة العربية وآدابها 1950م، واشتغل مدرساً 1950-1953م، ومارس الصحافة 1954م مع مجلة "الثقافة الجديدة" لكنها أغلقت، وفصل عن وظيفته، واعتقل بسبب مواقفه الوطنية. فسافر إلى سورية ثم بيروت ثم القاهرة. وزار الاتحاد السوفييتي 1959-1964م، واشتغل أستاذاً في جامعة موسكو، ثم باحثاً علمياً في معهد شعوب آسيا، وزار معظم أقطار أوروبا الشرقية والغربية. وفي سنة 19 شاعر عراقي معاصر،

عضو جمعية الشعر.
توفي سنة 1999.
