إن الديمقراطية من أنجح محاولات الإنسان لإدارة مجتمعه وترتيب علاقاته، إنها فكرة بشرية جرّبها العالم في مناطق عديدة، منذ أقدم سجلات التصويت والإنتخاب البشري في الأمم التي سبقت اليونان بأكثر من ألفي عام، إلى القبائل التي تدير أمورها بهذه الطريقة في كل قارة وإلى اليوم.
"الديمقراطية: الجذور وإشكالية التطبيق" هو عنوان كتاب الدكتور "محمد الأحمري"، وإن كان العنوان يوحي بلمحة تاريخية، إلا أنه يستعرض نقاشات متنوعة حول هذا الموضوع؛ ففيه عن التجربة اليونانية وبعض محاسنها وعيوبها وعن بعض ما سبقها من تجارب تم تجاهلها بسبب المركزية الأوروبية.
وذلك في مجتمع الجزيرة العربية وفي عددٍ من المجتمعات البشرية حول العالم التي تركت لنا شيئاً من أخبار هذه النظم، يتناول الكتاب أيضاً التجربة الراشدية في الحكم بإعتبار أنها كانت محاولات متنوعة للبحث عن الرشد وطرائقه.
إلا أن هناك قدر أطول من النقاش عن الديمقراطية التي ما زالت تمثل اليوم تحدياً في بعض المجتمعات العربية التي يرفض بعضها النظام الديمقراطي لأسباب إجتماعية أو ثقافية، لذلك توسع المؤلف في نقاش هذه الجزئية وعرض لبعض آراء علماء الإسلام في الموضوع.
وبحكم إتساع الموضوع فقد كان إختيار بعض قضاياه مقصوداً، والإعراض عن كثير منها هو المسلك الممكن، وبعض ما في النص كان نتاجاً لنقاشات عاصفة، مع مدارس شديدة المحافظة قبل الثورات العربية، ثم كانت الثورات فتحاً في الفكر، كما هي إنفراج لأزمات إجتماعية وسياسية جعلت الجدل حول الديمقراطية يأخذ منحىً أقل حدة عما كان عليه...
