تدور أحداث هذه الرواية حول المغامررة الجديدة للمستشرق الغنجليزى آزارد و الذى يعود لصعيد مصر؛ فى قرية بيجونة؛ بحثًا عن حقيقة الغيلان المصرية؛ هذه المرّة هو لا يجمع الحكايات الشعبية و الفلكلورية عن شخصيّة الغول من ألسنة أهل القرية؛ ولكنّه يحاول التأكد هل الغول محض إفتراءات و خيالات العجائز؟ هل هو قصّة مختلق لإخافة الأطفال حتى لا يلعبون ليلًا.. وفى وسط بحثه يقابل شخصية غير متوقّعه تكشف له المزيد عن أسرار عالم الغيلان؛ اعتقد أزارد أنّه وصل للدليل الذى كان يبحث عنه بعدما أمسك فى يده عظمة حقيقية للغول؛ ولكن المفاجآت التى كانت تنظره؛ فاقت كل توقّعاته!! ومع ذلك لم ينسى مهمّته الاساسية فى جمع الحكايات الشعبية و الفلكلور المصرى عن الغول؛ فالكتاب يزخر بعدد كبير من القصص التى دوّنها آزارد عن رواتها الأصليين إلى جانب عشرات الرسومات التوضيحيّة التى خطّها الكاتب داخل صفحات الكتاب
