يعتبر عاموس عوز من الأدباء الاسرائيليين المعاصرين الذين تميزوا بإنتاجاتهم الأدبية بين سائر الأدباء الإسرائيليين على خريطة الأدب الإسرائيلي المعاصر وهو الأمر الذي أكسبه شهرة واسعة داخل إسرائيل وينتمي عوز إلى أدباء جيل "الموجة الجديدة" الذين بدأوا في نشر إنتاجاتهم مع بداية الستينيات وظهروا على الساحة الأدبية من منتصف الخمسينيات.
ومما يزيد من مكانة عوز الأدبية في إسرائيل هو اهتمامه بالفرد الإسرائيلي وتساؤلاته حول وجهة المجتمع الإسرائيلي فإذا حاول الجيل السابق أن يمثل الشخصية الإسرائيلية الجديدة كمن يحقق حلم الأجيال فان عوز يحاول أن يمثلها كما لو أنها فشلت في تحقيق هذا الحلم مما حدا ببعض النقاد الإسرائيليين إطلاق عليه لقب "ضمير إسرائيل".
ولعل تلك الموضوعات التي تناولها عوز في إنتاجاته الأدبية كانت سببًا في هذه المكانة الأدبية المميزة التي يتمتع بها فقد تناولت أعماله الروائية والقصصية مشاكل "الكيبوتس" بكل إيجابياته وسلبياته، وتناولت أيضًا قضية التراث اليهودي وكانت مسألة الصراع العربي الإسرائيلي من أهم الموضوعات التي أولى لها اهتمام ملحوظًا منذ باكورة إنتاجاته الادبية وهو ما نستطيع أن نلمسه في أغلب أعماله الأدبية.
