الكتاب يعرض دراسة تحليليّة نقديّة، لطرح إشكاليّة الّلغة عند فلاسفة العرب، ممّا فرض على المؤلّف سلوك طريقين : إحداها تحليليّة – نقديّة تتناول تاريخ تكوين الّلفظ الفلسفي العربي، ومحاولات الفلاسفة في ضبطه وصياغته مع ما رافقها من تقلّبات وعثرات. والثّانية إستنتاجيّة – عمليّة تقوم على المقابلة بين واقع الّلغة الفلسفيّة العربيّة في أصولها، وحاجتنا إليها متطوّرة اليوم، فالطّريق الأولى تعيدنا إلى أوائل مفكّري العرب والمترجمين الّذين حاولوا وضع لغة فلسفة جديدة، ليحلّل المؤلّف طبيعة ألفاظها وأبعادها. أمّا الطّريق الثّانية فهي تصلنا بنتاج لغوي تفاعل فيه الأصيل والدّخيل، لتخوّلنا تثبيت الّلفظ أو غربلته، ترسيخا لأصول لغة فلسفيّة نفتقدها عندما نعبّر عن أفكارنا أو ننقل أو نعرّب.
