يعالج هذا الكتاب "الأكراد واللغة والسياسة" قضايا اللغة لدى الأكراد، ويتساءل: متى أصبحت اللغة هاجساً لدى الأكراد؟ وما هو التحدّي الذي أيقظ هذه المسألة؟ ومتى شعر الأكراد بالحاجة إلى لغة قومية؟ هذه الأسئلة وغيرها هي ما يحاول هذا الكتاب أن يجيب عنه من خلال دراسة العلاقة بين الأكراد واللغة والسياسة، والتركيز على سياسات الهوية كمدخل تفسيري لعلاقة الأكراد الملتبسة بالسياسة.
ويتناول الكتاب، علاوة على ذلك، النظريات المتعددة في أصول اللغة والكردية، ثم يعرض بالتفصيل لمشكلة تعدد اللغات واللهجات، وللمشكلات التي يثيرها هذا التعدد من حيث إعاقة تكوين هوية موحدة، أو تطوير لغة وسيطة، أو من حيث مخاطر التهديد اللغوي الذي يتجلى بحلول اللغات المجاورة محل اللغات الكردية. وفي هذا السياق يعرض لتجارب توفيق وهبي وعرب شمو وجلادت بدرخان التي تطلّعت إلى صوغ ألفبائية كردية وإلى الربط بين الهوية القومية والهوية اللغوية.
