إسرائيل شاحاك (بالعبرية:ישראל שחק) (28 أبريل 1933 - 2 يوليو 2001) هو إسرائيلي بولندي. ولد في وارسو في بولندا، وهو من الناجين من الهولوكوست. عمل محاضراً في الكيمياء في الجامعة العبرية في القدس. وهو رئيس سابق لأحد الجمعيات الإسرائيلية المعنية بحقوق الإنسان والحقوق المدنية. عرف عنه نقده الصريح للحكومة الإسرائيلية وللمجتمع الإسرائيلي على وجه العموم. كما أن كتاباته حول اليهودية أثارت الكثير من الجدل، وقد وصفه البعض بالمعاداة السامية على إثرها.

إن الطريقة الوحيدة لتجنب الهيمنة الإسرائيلية، وتجنب ازدياد القوة الإسرائيلية عموماً، في الشرق الأوسط، هي معرفة السياسات الإسرائيلية، والطريقة التي تُعرض بها على اليهود الإسرائيليين، معرفة تفصيلية، فالتعاطي بالشعارات والاستشهاد، الذي لا ينتهي، بوعد بلفور، لا يؤديان إلا إلى مفاقمة الوضع، وفرانسيس بيكون، أحد مؤسسي العلوم الحديثة يقول أن "المعرفة قوة".
وهذه الحكمة تنطبق على السياسة، مثلما تنطبق على أي شيء آخر. ويستطيع المرء أن يضيف، فيقول: إن النقص في المعرفة ضعف. ولا يمكن خوض أي نضال سياسي، عادل أم غير عادل، من موقع الضعف المتعمد. وهدف هذا الكتاب إضافة معرفة تفصيلية إلى معارف أولئك الذين لا يروق لهم احتمال نشوء هيمنة إسرائيلية على الشرق الأوسط، مهما يكن البلد الذي ينتمون إليه؛ وثمة يهود بينهم.
وقد عمد إسرائيل شاحاك إلى الكشف عن حقيقة السياسات الإسرائيلة التي تمارس ضد الأغيار وتحديداً نمط الحكم الإسرائيلي في الأراضي المحتلة والذي كما يرى شاحاك أنه نوع من الهيمنة تفوق جداً تلك التي تمارسها الامبراطوريات "المعهودة" والتي يرى أنها بالتأكيد مقصودة لصالح اليهود وحدهم. والذي باعتراف الصحافة العبرية هو أكثر سوءاً من أي حكم إمبريالي في القرن العشرين.
وقد وُضع هذا الكتاب كسلسلة من تقارير منفردة والتي يبرهن المؤلف من خلالها أن إسرائيل المدعومة من اللوبي اليهودي في الولايات المتحدة، تنتهج سياسة توسع سرية ويهدف إلى فرض سيطرة سياسة ليس على فلسطين فحسب، بل على الشرق الأوسط برمته تقريباً. وإسرائيل شاحاك رجل يتحلى بشجاعة فائقة... إنه واحد من الشخصيات المرموقة للغاية في الشرق الأوسط المعاصر.
