رواية "ملاك الجحيم" هى آخر رواية كتبها الروائى الأرجنتينى "ارنستو ساباتو" ، وهى من الروايات التى يصعب تلخيصها فهى مليئة بالأحداث المتشابكة ، والمشاهد المتقطعة ، وتتراكم فيها المشاهد المثيرة للرعب ، والتى تشكلت فى كوابيس مخيفة لا تخرج من ذاكرة قارئها ولا تفارق بصيرة مشاهدها ، ولأن "ساباتو" ليس متصالحاً مع واقعه ، ولأنه يرفض هذا العصر الذى حول الإنسان إلى أداة تستهلك منتجات العصر ذاته ، حوّل عالمه الروائى إلى كابوس يملأ صاحبه رعباً ، فهنا عصابة للتزوير ، وهناك أخرى للتهريب ، وبينهما عصابة لارتكاب الموبقات وأهونها القتل بدون عذاب ، ومن حول هذه وتلك عرافات ومشعوذون ونساء يسترقن النظرة شهوة إلى الجنس بعيون مفترسة متوحشة.
