The Publisher and the author
Book A Methodology of Reflection and Purification in the Short Surahs of the Qur’an .
Dr. Mohammad Saleh Alkhoudari (محمد صالح الخضري) is a retired Palestinian physician and author whose professional career in medicine has been accompanied by decades of study, reflection, and writing on Qur’anic guidance and Islamic thought. A graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University, he later pursued advanced medical training in the United Kingdom in the field of Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat). He practiced medicine for many years before retiring from his medical career.
Alongside his work as a physician, Dr. Alkhoudari devoted a significant part of his intellectual life to the study of the Qur’an, with particular interest in its guidance, spiritual and educational dimensions, and its role in shaping the character of individuals and society. He is the author of several works addressing Qur’anic themes, Islamic guidance, spiritual development, and the practical application of Qur’anic teachings. Among his earlier published works is منهج الدعاة إلى الله في رحاب سورتي الكهف والقصص (The Methodology of Those Who Call to Allah in the Light of Surahs Al-Kahf and Al-Qasas), published by Dar Al-Nafa’is in Amman in 1998, with introductions by the scholars Dr. Ahmad Hasan Farhat and Sheikh Abd al-Sattar Abu Ghuddah. The work reflects his longstanding interest in deriving practical principles of guidance, الدعوة, character development, and reform from the structure, narratives, and teachings of the Qur’an.
His most recent work, منهج تدبر وتزكية في قصار السور (A Method of Qur’anic Reflection and Purification through the Short Surahs), continues and further develops this approach. Rather than treating Qur’anic interpretation as an intellectual or linguistic exercise alone, Dr. Alkhoudari emphasizes that engagement with the Qur’an should ultimately lead to personal and spiritual transformation. In the book’s introduction, he distinguishes simple recitation from tadabbur—deep, purposeful reflection—and explains that true reflection should lead to tazkiyah: the purification and development of faith, the soul, character, and conduct.
His methodology begins by identifying the central subject and overall message of each surah and examining the interconnected themes within its verses. He then explores the relationship among these themes and the wisdom reflected in the divinely ordered sequence of the verses, seeking to uncover the unified guidance contained within each surah. From this understanding, he derives dimensions of tazkiyah that can be reflected in belief, worship, ethical behavior, human relationships, and everyday conduct.
