موضوع الكتاب يعرف من عنوانه، وهو ردٌّ لدعوى أثيرت حول حديث أم سلمة المخرج في صحيح مسلم وغيره؛ والذي فيه:(ما من مسلم تصيبه مصيبة ثم يقول إن لله وإن إليه راجعون اللهم أجرني في مصيبتي وأخلف لي خيرا منها إلا آجره الله في مصيبته، وأخلف الله له خيرا منها...) ونفاد هذه الدعوى أن هذا الحديث لا يعمل به في مصيبة فقد الوالد؛ كون الوالد لا يستعاض عنه بحال.
وهذه الدعوى إنما وقعت لصاحبها نتيجة لسوء فهمه لكلام أحد العلماء المعاصرين، وإلا فإنها دعوى لا تصح؛ كيف وأن الحديث عام لا مخصص له، لا سيما وأن قوله (...مصيبة) نكرة وضم إليها (من) الاستغراقية يفيدان العموم...والله تعالى أعلم.
