هو تلك المسافة البينية التي قد يخرج منها الإنسان إلى منطقة الأمان إذا غلب بياض إيمانه على سواده، أو يظل عالقاً فيها، معرضاً لخطر الوقوع في دائرة العذاب إذا كانت نسبة السواد هي الغالبة.
الرماديون هم مؤمنون وموحدون ولكن اختلطت نواياهم. حاولوا الجمع بين طريقين لا يلتقيان: طريق الخير وطريق الشر. بين طاعة الله وطاعة النفس الأمارة بالسوء.
ومثل هذا الإيمان الرمادي من الخطورة بمكان لأنه قد يؤدي بصاحبه إلى الشرك والكفر. ولا يمكن أن يعبر بصاحبه إلى منطقة الأمان، حيث رضوان الله وجنته."
