تدور فكرة الرواية حول هجرة الشباب من الوطن العربي عبر البحر إلى غربة المنافي؛ بحثاً عن إنسانيتهم التائهة، وأملاً في العثور على حياةٍ رغيدة في بلاد الجليد، حيث لا خوف عليهم هناك من فقرٍ أو بطالة، ولا خوف عليهم من محسوبية واضطهاد، أو حروب ونكبات، وتصوّر الرواية تفاصيل حادثة الغرق التي تعرضت لها بعض المراكب المحملة بالمهاجرين العرب الهاربين بأسرهم وأجنتهم عبر البحر الذي لا يرحم الأحياء، ولا يحتفظ بجثث الموتى.
