إن سألنا أنفسنا ما وجه الشبه بين الحياة والموت، كان جوابنا: لا نعلم! وهذا بحدّ ذاته الجواب الشافي. تبقى الحياة والموت سرّين من أسرار الوجود، ولا نستطيع إلّا أن نتفاجأ أمام حتميّة الموت، وكأنّنا لم نكُن على علمٍ بذلك. ليس الموت نهاية المطاف أو تكليلًا لمشروع، بل إنّه عمليّة استقالة قسريّة عن امتهاننا الحياة. لا يشفي غليل الإنسان الحتميّة البيولوجيّة لموته، فلاستمراريّة حيات إن سألنا أنفسنا ما وجه الشبه بين الحياة والموت، كان جوابنا: لا نعلم! وهذا بحدّ ذاته الجواب الشافي. تبقى الحياة والموت سرّين من أسرار الوجود، ولا نستطيع إلّا أن نتفاجأ أمام حتميّة الموت، وكأنّنا لم نكُن على علمٍ بذلك. ليس الموت نهاية المطاف أو تكليلًا لمشروع، بل إنّه عمليّة استقالة قسريّة عن امتهاننا الحياة. لا يشفي غليل الإنسان الحتميّة البيولوجيّة لموته، فلاستمراريّة حياته المعنى الأعمق وليس لتوقّفها. وأبعد من ذلك، ينسج الإنسان حلمًا بالخلود ليتخطّى به عقبة الموت، ليجد نفسه متناقضًا بين يقينٍ داخليّ باستمراريّة الحياة وبديهيّة الموت. يطرح علينا الأب بولاد هذه المسائل من زاويةٍ فكريّةٍ فلسفيّةٍ إنسانيّةٍ وجوديّةٍ بحتة، لتُكمّل السعي الكتابيّ الدينيّ وتدعمه في نظرتين لا تتنافران بل تتكاملان إحداها مع الأُخرى.
