كانت القُوّات المُسَلَّحَة المِصْرِيَّة –ومازالت- من أقدم الجيوش النظامية في التاريخ وأشرفها، وعنوان الوطنية والعطاء، ودرع الحرية، ومنبع العزة الوطنية والقومية العربية، ونواة التحديث والتطوير فى جميع مناحي الحياة، وقد امتد هذا الدور للعسكرية المصرية فى التاريخ المعاصر إلى المنطقة العربية، فقامت من خلال بعثاتها العسكرية -إلى دول المنطقة- بغرس الوطنية والعقيدة العسكرية، وروح التضحية والفداء، كما رسخت القومية العربية بين الجنود والضباط الذين تم تأهيلهم على يديها، هذا إلى جانب دورها التعليمي، والتدريبي، والتحديثي .
وتتناول هذه الدراسة دور البعثة العسكرية المصرية فى اليمن، وأثرها فى عقلية الجيش اليمنى ونفسيته وعقيدته، وقد وصلت البعثة إلى صنعاء مع نهاية عام 1954، واستمرت فى عملها حتى يونيو عام 1955م، ونتيجة لتوتر الأوضاع الداخلية طلبت صنعاء سحبها، ثم عادت الأخيرة وطلبت عودة البعثة، مرة أخري، فى نهاية عام 1956م، ووصلت البعثة بالفعل إلى هناك فى عام 1957، واستمرت فى عملها حتى عام 1961م، عندما قامت اليمن بقطع العلاقات السياسية مع الجمهورية العربية المتحدة.
