لسنا في تأريخ كثير من حياة وسيرة ومناقب صاحبه الحافظ إلّا عالة على كتابه: "فتح الإله ومنتّه في التحدّث بفضل ربي ونعمته"، وهو تأليف حافل ذكر فيه سيرة حياته وأخباره، إلا أنّ كتابنا هذا لا يخرج عن غاية التأليف عند علمائنا، إذ لخّصنا سيرته التي أكثر من الاستطراد فيها، ورتّبنا أحداثها على غير ترتيب صاحبها، وقاربنا وسدّدنا في ما يحمل الأوجه، ودعّمنا عملنا هذا بمصادر أخرى هي مزيد كمال لسيرته وآثاره.
وأكثر من ذلك، هو الوقوف على تراث الحافظ الذي ما ترك فنّا ولا علما من فنون وعلوم عصره، إلا صنّف فيه النّظم والنّثر، وجمع فيه الشّارد والوارد، وشرح فيه الشروح، وحشى الحواشي. رغم ذلك لا يصلُنا منها إلّا النزر اليسير جدا من مجموع تراثه الوافر.
