تغطي هذه الدراسة التوثيقية سير عمل بعثات التنقيب للجامعات الأمريكية في المواقع الأثرية في العراق وأثر تلك البعثات في ابراز الجانب الحضاري للعراق لمدة زمنية تبلغ أكثر من قرن من البحث والتنقيب، إذ يتحدد الإطار الزمني من العام 1888 -2022 ، ويمثل التاريخ الأول قدوم أول بعثة أمريكية إلى العراق في حين يمثل التاريخ الثاني قدوم آخر بعثة أمريكية لغاية عام 2022 من جامعة بنسلفانيا للتنقيب في بوابة المسقى الأثرية في نينوى.
