المصدر الوحيد للقصة هو مقال تخميني ظهر في ديلي تلغراف في عام 1969 بعنوان "Lone Bomber Raid on New York Planned by Hitler"، والذي زعم فيه هانز بانشيرز أنه قام بالرحلة.
