زندگینامه خود نوشت مرتضی رادمهر – از روحانیون شیعی معاصر- و شرح علل گرایش وی به اهل سنت و مصائب و مشكلاتی است كه از این راه برای وی پیش آمده است. نویسنده كتاب، كه از طلاب برجسته حوزه علمیه قم بوده است، انگیزههایی را كه وی را از اندیشه های شیعی خرافی جدا كرده و به سوی اهل سنت سوق داد، شرح میدهد و از این راه، خوانندگان را نیز با مبانی فكری اهل سنت و نقاط اختلاف آنان با شیعیان آشنا میسازد. مجموعه رویداد های پیش آمده در زندگی وی، به عنوان یك طلبه و شرح مناظرات و محاجّه هایش با علمای سنی، پاسخگوی بسیاری از پرسشها و شبهات شیعیان درباره اهل سنت است؛ لذا این اثر، نه یك زندگینامه صِرف، بلكه درسنامه ای عقیدتی از تفكرات اهل سنت است. وی در آغاز مختصری از وضعیت خانوادگی و دوران كودكی و سپس چرایی و چگونگی حضورش در حوزه علمیه و دانشگاه را شرح میدهد. در فصل بعد، از سفرش به بلوچستان و آشنایی با مولانا رهبر معنوی و عقیدتی اهل سنت منطقه سخن میگوید به شرح ملاقاتش با وی و مذاكراتشان با او میگوید. سفر حج و بازدید از سلیمانیه عراق و سوریه و تأثیراتی كه این سفرها بر وی گذاشتند، مطالبی است كه در ادامه كتاب آمده است. فصل پایانی، شرح تحولات درونی عمیق نویسنده، دستگیریهای مكرر و برخوردهای وزارت اطلاعات با وی میباشد كه شكنجه های شدید و وحشتناكی در زندان را برایش به همراه داشته است. بخش پایانی كتاب، كه شرح واپسین روزهای زندگی رادمهر است، به قلم شخص دیگری است؛ زیرا نویسنده كتاب در اثر عوارض جسمی ناشی از شكنجه توسط مأموران اطلاعات در گذشته است.
