بدأ الكاتب المجموعة القصصية بهذه الكلمات " في مساء يوم شتوي مطير شديد برودة الطقس تصارعت فيه غيوم السماء وتقاتلت فقرعت الأصوات وأمتلأ المكان صخباً وضجيجاً ، وكأن جبل قد انهار حجرٌ حجر ، فتهاوى وسقط فوق رأس العباد ... استمر هذا المنوال لسويعات حتى سقط المطر بغزارة بعد هذا الصراع العنيف ، بعدها اضطرب فؤادي فرحاً ورهبةً ، فرحاً بسقوط المطر ورهبةً من البرق والرعد ، وما بين النقيضين تسللت إلى غرفتي كاللص الذي راح يسرق في ظلمات الليل الحالك ، وكنت امشي خائفاً أترقب من سقوط أي شيء على رأسي .
