بدأ جولدتسيهر فى كتابة يومياته الكاملة فى اليوم الذى بلغ فيه الأربعين عام 1890م، واستمر فى كتابتها حتى عام 1919م ،قبل وفاته بعامين. ونشرت هذه اليوميات بعد وفاته بزمن طويل فى -1977 1978م. وورد بها الكثير من آرائه فى الأديان السماوية الثلاثة ، وصلته بمعتنقيها ، وبخاصة الإسلام والمسلمون. وتضم هذه اليوميات ما مر به فى حياته من أحداث ، وما عاناه من تجارب جعلت حياته شديدة المرارة، عدا بعض أيام سعيدة نعم فيها بالهدوء ، وقابل فيها رجالأً يقدرون مكانته العلمية . وبخاصة أثناء وجوده فى الشام ومصر ، حيث يذكر ما قابله فيهما بالخير ، ويشيد بما لاقاه فيهما من صداقة وود.
