رغم أن الحب ظاهرة طبيعية وفطرية عامة، تناولها بالحديث والوصف والبحث، كل من خاض في غمار الشعر، ودخل حلبة الفكر، وانخرط في ميدان التأمل الفلسفي، فإننا لا نجد للحب حتى اليوم، تعريفاُ واحداً، وكأنه يمت بصلة إلى عالم الكليات المجردة والغيبيات، ولا صلة له بالحياة والواقع المعاش كل يوم وكل لحظة.
وسيبقى الحب موضوعاً فلسفياً عسيراً على العقل معرفته، مغلقاً على الإفهام، لا يقبل التعريف أو التفسير، وإنما يعاش كما تعاش الحياة، ما دام هنالك إنسان وما استمرت حياة.
والجدير بالذكر، أن الحب أشبه ما يكون بالزهرة اليانعة اليافعة، التي تحتاج دائماً إلى العناية والرعاية حتى تبلغ منتهى نضارتها وتبقى محتفظة بحيويتها. وكما أن إهمال الزهرة يضر بها لأنه يؤدي بها إلى الضمور والاضمحلال، فكذلك الحال بالنسبة إلى الحب الذي تسعة إليه الأمراض حتى تبلغه نهايته المفجوعة...
والذي لا شك فيه، أن العلاقة الجدلية بين توهم الحب، والعمر، علاقة قائمة ودائمة لا يمكن المداجاة فيها، ولا تخفى على بصير... والقول عكس ذلك، مجرد مكابرة ليس إلا...علماً أن عشق المثل وحب الأوطان قد يصبح عند بعض الناس أقوى وأعظم من أي حب كان، سواء كان حباً لأهل وأولاد وخلان، أو حباً لامرأة، وقد يذهب بهم الهيمان بما يحبونه إلى حد التضحية بحياتهم في سبيله وهم سعداء...
