"كانوا ثلاثة.. وثلاثتهم فارغون، لقد حنكتهم الأيام، وطعنت بهم السن،و جمعهم هذا الركن الهادئ المنزوي في مقهاهم الشعبي المفضل، (مقهى السرور)، كما جمعتهم رغبة مشتركة في الثرثرة وتزجية الفراغ. لم يكن حديثهم الليلة عن أمجادهم الغابرة، ولا عن فحولتهم الجنسية الباهرة الماضية، ولا عن أيام الشباب. كان حديث الليلة عن علم الفراسة عن العرب الأقدمين. كل واحد منهم يدعي لنفسه السبق في هذا المجال وينسب لذاته العبقرية في هذا المضمار. إلا أن سؤال التحدي، قذف به أبو ناجي فجأة فقال: لقد حزرتم على كثيرين من أصحاب المهن، كيف يتم كشفهم، وتحديد نوعية حرفهم عن غير معرفة مسبقة بهم. ولكن كيف تستطيعون أن تعرفوا الرجل الموظف من غير الموظف، إذا كان هذا الرجل مجهول الهوية لديكم تماماً؟!".
