الكتاب يخلد كلمات الشهيد باسل الأعرج، وبعض الكلمات المنشورة عنه. وعنوان الكتاب مُستَلُّ من وصية الشهيد، ومرسوم بخط يده. يحوي الكتاب على كل ما كتبه الشهيد من أبحاث ومقالات وتدوينات، المنشورة منها وغير المنشورة، بالإضافة إلى سيرة شخصية للشهيد من ميلاده إلى استشهاده، ومختارات مما كُتب عن الشهيد وإليه، تتصدرها كلمة عائلة الشهيد في ذكراه السنوية الأولى.
وتُشكل كتابات الشهيد باسل في مجملها، بياناً سياسياً ثورياً، يجمع ما بين وضوح الرؤية المبنية على البحث والتحليل وما بين الموقف السياسي والأخلاقي المتسق مع هذه الرؤية. "وإنّ إصدار هذا الكتاب لهو قيامٌ ببعض الواجب نحو الأجيال القادمة، في حفظ إرث ثقافتنا الوطنية الحقيقية المكتوبة بدم الشهادة وعرق التجربة، وذلك في مواجهة تحالف ثقافات الزيف الثلاث: ثقافة السلطة وثقافة الاستعمار وثقافة الارتزاق".
يشار إلى أن الشهيد باسل الأعرج في السادس من آذار مارس 2017، عقب اشتباكٍ مسلح مع قوات الاحتلال التي حاصرت منزلًا يتحصن به، بعد مطاردته لنحو عام تقريبًا واعتقاله لدى سجون السلطة وإضرابه عن الطعام إضافة إلى رفاقه الخمسة.
