حكاية الشعر، كما قال الشاعر الراحل نزار قباني، كحكاية "الوردة المرتجفة على الرابية.. قميصاً من الدم، ومخدة من عبير..". ولكن شعر هذا العصر له حكاية أخرى.. فهو قلق، متوثب، عصابي، فائق النشاط دائم القفز بالأفكار الخاطفة حتى إنه لا يستكمل ما يبدأ، وشعر كهذا لا يغمض له طرف على مخدة من عبير... فرائحة المعامل والمصانع، ونكهة الدم، واستمرار التواتر والخوف من الحروب المتلاحقة، وتصاعد القلق على المستقبل وما يمكن أن يحمله من هموم، كشفت أن الأدب يسند رأسه على رقائق من القصدير، ويرقص على مسارح من الصفيح المحمى، تفوح من حروفه رائحة الجلد المحروق، ومن معانيه القلق، ومن أوزانه الذهان والشرود، فإذا بالبوح -نثراً كان أم شعراً- وقد أصبح ذا نكهة مطاطية معدنية تغتصب عذرية الشعور، وإذا بالقصائد التي تتوسد مخدة من العبير وقد اصبحت عتيقة الطراز، غريبة الإيقاع، ثقيلة الوقع على النفس، وصارت معادلة نزار قباني نصف مقلوبة، ونصف مشوهة، فإذا بحكاية الشعر تصبح كحكاية المدفع الرابض على الرابية.. حذاء من الدم، وقميصاً من الصفيح..
