هذا كتابٌ فريدٌ في بابه؛ إذ جمع فيه ابن حبيب النيسابوري رحمه الله أوجه نزول القرآن الكريم، وما ورد في ترتيب نزوله. وقد ابتدأه ببيان مكانة وشرف علم نزول القرآن الكريم وجهاته وترتيبه، ثم أعقب ذلك بذكر خمسةً وعشرين وجهًا لتنزيل القرآن، ذكرها جملةً، ثم أتى على كل وجه بفصلٍ غير مشروحٍ ولا مبسوطٍ، مُبيِّنًا سبب ذلك؛ لئلا يطول الكتاب ويملَّه الحُفَّاظ. مُصدِّرًا القول بترتيب أول ما نزل من القرآن بمكة، ثم ما اختلفوا فيه من القول بآخر ما نزل بمكة، مُبيِّنًا أثناء ذلك أن عدد ما نزل بمكة خمس وثمانون سورة، قد استقرَّت الروايات من الثقات على ذلك. مُثنِّيًا بذكر أول ما نزل من القرآن بالمدينة، وأن جميع ما نزل بالمدينة تسع وعشرون سورة، ثم أوضحَ في خلال ذلك ما اختلفوا في نزوله بالمدينة. ثم ذكر بعد انتهائه من وجوه التنزيل فصلاً عن وجوه الخطاب في القرآن الكريم، وقد أتى على خمسة عشر وجهًا، ثم أدرجَ معه القول عن السور المكية المتضمِّنة للآيات المدنية، وبه ختمَ كتابَه.
