ربما تكون التفسيرات النظرية لرسوم الأطفال من أكثر الأسباب المسوغة لهذا الكتاب وما احتواه من تجارب عملية. كما ان انتشارها بين المعلمين وأغلب الباحثين جعلها وكأنها بديهيات لا تحتاج الى برهان. أنا لا أنكر تأثير المشكلات النفسية على السلوك ولكن ليس كل سلوك يُعزى إلى أسباب نفسية كامنة في اللاشعور، ولاسيما عند الأطفال، فهم يتصفون بالديناميكية والتفاعل مع الحدث الذي هم فيه وكثيرا ما ينسون خلافاتهم مع اقرانهم كما يشهده الآباء وتشهده الأمهات. وقد ظهر جليا أن تفسيراتهم للمظاهر التعبيرية لم تقف عند حد المشكلات النفسية.
