رواية هذا الجسد تتحدث حول سيرة إمراءة مريضة بمرض قاتل و جسدها على وشك الانهيار مما يجعلها تدخل في حالة من حالات التأمل في رحلتها في الحياة و تبدأ بمراجعة كافة المواقف و الاشخاص و استخلاص العبر و العظات وهي على حافة الموت و تشبه الكاتبة كريستا فولفرانهيار جسد بطلة الرواية بأنهيار جدار برلين و الذي كان يحدث في نفس وقت تدهور صحة البطلة و يقال أن المؤلفة كانت تعاني مرض من هذا القبيل و على الارجح هي البطلة الحقيقية لهذه الرواية .
