تنظر إليه أمه بأسى وترق لحاله. وعندما استيقظت عند الفجر للصلاة، فوجئت بغرفته مضاءة على غير العادة، وأحست بوجود حركة فيها، فشعرت بريبة وخوف، فهي تعرف أن عبد الله ينام على السطح في ليالي الصيف، بينما تنام هي مع ابنتها في فناء الدار. اقتربت من الغرفة بهدوء وحذر .. كان بابها مفتوحاً، وعبد الله يبحث في حقيبة، وضعت فيها ثياب قديمة وبالية
