عملت سارة كونتر منذ العام 2000 مذيعة في الإذاعة الألمانية، ثم مقدمة حوارية في التلفزيون، وصحفية ذات عمود ثابت في جريدة ألمانية معروفة. وفي عام 2009 فأجات كونتر الجميع بنشر أول رواية لها بعنوان "نسخة معيبة" . وعلى الرغم من أنها باكورة إنتاجها الروائي، فإن الرواية استمرت لعدة شهور على رأس قائمة المتب الأفضل في ألمانيا. وربما يمكن إرجاع نجاح الرواية إلى كونها ليست مجرد وصف تجربة سيدة شابة تفقد عملها، ويتركها صديقا فتصاب بحالة اكتئاب، استمرت لمدة عام، لكنها جاءت في الواقع لتلمس روح العصر بصدق متناه، وتخاطب الرجل والمرأة والشباب والشيوخ على حد سواء.
