تحاول الرواية من خلال عدة خيوط درامية طرح و معالجة أسباب الإلحاد لدي الشباب، وكيف يمكن أن يتحول داعية شاب إلى ملحد ومنظر للإلحاد يدعو الآخرين لذلك؟ وهل سيعود إلى الجادة أم ستنتهي حياته على ما هو فيه من الضلال؟, كما تتناول الرواية قصة محاضر جامعي متميز أدت به الأحداث الممتابعة إلى انضمامه إلى الجماعات الإرهابية رغماً عنه فوجد نفسه يصارع أفكارًا لم يتخيل قط أن يقابلها مصادفة، فيخوض رحلة فكرية متلاطمة، في مواجهة رؤوس التكفير و التفجير، ولم يتوقف الأمر على ذلك بل طلبوا منه القيام بأكبر جرم يبغضه و إلا كانت نهايته, فهل يستجيب لذلك أم لا؟.
كما تتناول الرواية نموذجين متناقضين لرجال الدين، أحدهما اتخذ من دينه وسيلة للربح و التصدر، و آخر علم أنه من ورثه الأنبياء فسعى في نشر الحق, و تسوقهما الأحداث المتتابعة إلى مواجهة عسيرة و صراع مرير، ثم تنقلب الأحوال تمامًا وتتبدل، ليصبح أعداء الأمس أصدقاء اليوم, كيف حدث ذلك وإلى ماذا تنتهي تلك العلاقة المضطربة؟، هذا ما توضحه لنا الرواية .
